A much sought-after venue for India's premier off-road events, Kerala has the right terrain to put your driving skills to the test. Get a bird's eye view of Kerala, at nearly 6,000 ft above sea level. The paragliding season starts from September and offers great flying conditions until January and again, from March to May. Float like a cloud and take on the blue skies and chat with the birds. Vagamon in the district of Idukki is fast emerging as the paragliding hotspot. The paragliding Grand Prix held during September every year brings together paragliders form across the world.
Kerala Tourism under the aegis of Kerala Adventure Tourism promotion society is conducting the Mathrubhumi Yathra 7th International Paragliding Carnival at Vagamon, Idukki. The festival is in association with Fly Vagamon club, Vagamon destination management committee and Paragliding Association of India. The event dates are from 21 Feb 2015 until 1 Mar 2015 at Vedikuzhi suicide point. The aim of the event is to promote Vagamon as an adventure destination for Keralites and for inbound tourists. Over 50 national and international paragliding pilots are expected to take part in the carnival. The carnival ground will open its gates from 12 PM until 6 PM during the festival. Visitors can expect to see a spectacular acrobatic show every day with international pilots led by Calin Popa from Romania. Visitors also have the option to go for a joyride with expert pilots and really become a part of the event."We are excited to organize this year’s carnival. For the first time acrobatics shows are being arranged. The visitors also will have a good opportunity to take to the skies.
Gavi natural environment untouched by modernity is the home to wildlife and birds. Tourist visiting Gavi can enjoy the sight of this wildlife in their natural habitat through Vehicle safaris to take a glimpse of the endangered species like Nilgiri Tahr and Lion-tailed macaque if you are lucky, Kerala’s favorite elephants among others. Gavi is a home to over 260 species of birds including the great pied hornbill, woodpecker, and kingfishers. Gavi is a birdwatchers delight.
